The MES-Dipankar’s Badminton Academy (MES-DBA), is a grand new initiative, led by former Double Olympian and multiple times National Men’s Singles Badminton Champion Dipankar Bhattacharjee in collaboration with Modern English School, Guwahati.
The collaboration is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of badminton champions by combining rigorous Badminton training with excellence in Academics.
Built on the ethos of "Nurturing Minds and Inspiring Champions", the academy is designed to cultivate young badminton talents of Assam and the North Eastern States by blending world-class sports training with strong academic grounding.
The objective is to prepare well-rounded individuals for life.
Guided by the MES vision to produce an Olympian by 2036, the academy emphasizes world-class coaching and infrastructure to rival the best in the world.
Mr. Dipankar Bhattacharjee is a distinguished Indian badminton player and a Double Olympian. He has made remarkable contributions to the sport, both in India and on international platforms.
Hailing from Assam, Dipankar’s journey in badminton began at an early age and has since become a source of inspiration for athletes across the country, especially in Assam.
Born on February 1, 1972, Dipankar displayed extraordinary talent in badminton during his early years. He trained under various coaches most noteworthy being Former All England Champion and World number One, Shri Prakash Padukone.
His commitment to the sport culminated in his historic achievement as the first Indian shuttler to qualify twice consecutively for the Olympic Games, representing India at Barcelona in 1992 and Atlanta in 1996.
Dipankar’s career includes numerous accomplishments at both the national and international levels. Domestically, he won the prestigious National Badminton Championship title three times – in 1994, 1995, and 1996 – showcasing his consistency and command over the sport.
He was India number one consecutively for six years. Internationally, Dipankar represented India in various tournaments, where he faced top players, gaining invaluable experience that he later shared with aspiring players across India.
His dedication to the sport earned him several accolades and widespread recognition, making him an enduring icon in Indian badminton.

In an exciting development, we are thrilled to announce the establishment of an Olympic-standard badminton academy in collaboration with Assam’s two-times Olympian Dipankar Bhattacharjee. This academy will provide world-class training facilities right in Guwahati, focusing on rigorous skill development, strategies, and elite-level competition. Set to open in 2025, the MES Dipankar’s Badminton Academy embodies our commitment to sports and aims to empower students to break boundaries and set new benchmarks, reaffirming our dedication to nurturing athletes who will bring pride to the school and our country.
The students will be guided and trained by Double Olympian Dipankar Bhattacharjee and his team of Hand Picked National and International coaches of repute.
Our academy features five professional-grade wooden badminton courts with synthetic flooring, a strength and conditioning area to boost agility and endurance, and nearby housing options for non-local students, ensuring holistic training.
Structured programs tailored for various age groups and skill levels, from beginners to elite players. These sessions will provide students with exposure to global training methodologies, strategies, and advanced training techniques.
Opportunities to participate in local, national, and international tournaments allow athletes to hone their skills, gain valuable experience, foster competitive spirit, build resilience, and elevate their performance on a broader stage.
